2nd New Zealand Childhood Studies Colloquium
What does Childhood Studies mean for research, policy and practice?

This is the Advance Notice announcement for the 2nd Childhood Studies Colloquium being held in Dunedin on 20th and 21st October 2015 on the theme What does Childhood Studies mean for research, policy and practice? This follows on from the very successful 1stChildhood Studies Colloquium held in Auckland in November last year. The 2015 Colloquium is being co-hosted by the University of Otago Children and Young People as Social Actors Research Cluster, the Children’s Issues Centre and the organisers of the 1stColloquium. We are grateful to the University of Otago Humanities Divison for their generous financial support for this event. The 20th anniversary of the Children’s Issues Centre will also be celebrated at the Colloquium.
Three exciting keynote speakers have been confirmed:
- Professor Nigel Thomas, Professor of Childhood and Youth Research, School of Social Work, University of Central Lancashire, Preston, England;
- Associate Professor Affrica Taylor, Geographies of Education and Childhood,University of Canberra, Australia;
- Alison Cleland, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, University of Auckland; Chair, Action for Children and Youth Aotearoa, New Zealand.
The Colloquium will be held at St Margaret’s College which is located in the heart of the University of Otago campus in Dunedin.
The Call for Papers will be released in late-April and will offer a variety of opportunities to participate, including paper presentations (20 mins), short presentations (5 mins), armchair roundtables and poster discussions. Papers based on presentations will be considered for publication in a special issue of the Childrenz Issues journal.
Spaces at the Colloquium will be limited so please express your initial interest (and preferred type of presentation if presenting) by emailing 2015csc@otago.ac.nz
Registration and other details will follow with the Call for Papers next month.
Please feel free to forward this email to your networks and postgraduate students. We are keen to ensure the gathering is as interdisciplinary as possible and includes researchers, advocates, policymakers and practitioners.
Important dates:
Late-April 2015: Call for Papers and Registration information released
3 July 2015: Deadline for abstracts in response to the Call for Papers
4 September 2015: Deadline for Early Bird Registration ($100 waged; $70 unwaged)
