The Department of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University is inviting applications for the following 2 positions:

Position 1: Welfare and Well-being of Children and Youth

The Department of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University invites applications for a a probationary (tenure track) appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2017. The position is subject to budgetary approval.

Qualifications

A multi/inter/transdisciplinary scholar with a completed PhD in Anthropology, Child and Youth Studies, Criminology, Cultural Studies, Human Geography, Social Work, Sociology or a related discipline is preferred. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of successful research and teaching in the welfare and well-being of children and youth, including one or more of these preferred areas: class, cultural diversity, Indigeneity, race/racism, sexualities. Evidence of strong and innovative qualitative methodology will be an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the sociocultural focus areas of the department as well as qualitative research methods.

In addition to undergraduate teaching and supervision, the successful candidate will be expected to support the Graduate program in Child and Youth Studies, and continue a successful program of research within the department’s diverse multi- and transdisciplinary ethos.

Position 2: Socio-cultural Theories of Childhood and Youth

The Department of Child and Youth Studies at Brock University invites applications for a probationary (tenure track) appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2017. The position is subject to budgetary approval.

Qualifications

A completed PhD in Anthropology, Child and Youth Studies, Criminology, Cultural Studies, Human Geography, Sociology or a relevant discipline is preferred. Evidence of demonstrated expertise in cutting edge socio-cultural theories of childhood and youth, linked to a strong research program, and high quality teaching is also required. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the socio-cultural focus area of the department with a strong focus on theoretical frameworks.

In addition to undergraduate teaching and supervision, the successful candidate will be expected to support the Graduate program in Child and Youth Studies, and continue a successful program of research within the department’s diverse multi- and transdisciplinary ethos.
