CfA: Society for Research in Child Development Policy Fellowships

The Society for Research in Child Development (SRCD) is seeking applicants for SRCD Federal Policy Fellowships for 2018-2019.

There are two types of federal fellowships: Congressional and Executive Branch. Both types of fellowships provide researchers with exciting opportunities to come to Washington, D.C. and use their research skills in child development to inform public policy. Fellows work as resident scholars within congressional or federal agency offices.
Fellowships are full-time immersion experiences and run from September 1st, 2018 through August 31st, 2019. Following a two-week science policy orientation program sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), fellows receive an orientation to child development and public policy. The SRCD Policy and Communications Staff facilitate the fellowship experience and are available as a resource throughout the year.

Application Requirements: Applicants must have a doctoral-level degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., Ed.D.), must demonstrate exceptional competence in an area of child development research, and must be a member of SRCD. Both early-career and more advanced professionals are encouraged to apply.

Deadline to apply: December 15, 2017

More information about the federal fellowships is available online at https://srcd.org/policy-media/policy-fellowships-federal, or email policyfellowships@srcd.org. To apply to the fellowship, click here.

SRCD is seeking applicants for SRCD State Policy Fellowships

SRCD is seeking letters of intent for two State Policy Fellowship Programs for the 2018-2019 academic year: the Pre-doctoral State Policy Fellowship in Early Learning, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Post-doctoral State Policy Fellowship in Early Childhood, funded by the Heising-Simons Foundation.

Pre-doctoral State Policy Fellowship in Early Learning

SRCD will be sponsoring a Pre-doctoral State Policy Fellowship in Early Learning in the 2018-2019 academic year (from September 1, 2018 through August 31, 2019). SRCD will be supporting up to four part-time Pre-doctoral State Policy Fellows with placements in state executive branch offices that work on state pre-kindergarten programs. SRCD will be seeking candidates with interest in early education.

The intent is for fellows to be supported and guided by both a placement supervisor within the executive branch agency, as well as an academic mentor at their home institution. SRCD expects the Pre-doctoral State Policy Fellowship in Early Learning to provide both the fellows and academic mentors opportunities to gain further experience and insights into the ways in which research and child development expertise can be used to inform policymaking in state executive branch agencies.

More information about the program, including requirements and procedures for submission of letters of intent is available here.

Post-doctoral State Policy Fellowship in Early Childhood

SRCD will be sponsoring a Post-doctoral State Policy Fellowship Program in Early Childhood in the 2018-2019 academic year (from September 1, 2018 through August 31, 2019). SRCD will be supporting full time positions for two Post-doctoral State Policy Fellows with placements in state executive branch agency offices that focus on early childhood. Candidates are sought with expertise in the research on family engagement, early math skills, or the development of dual language learners in early childhood.

In addition to a placement supervisor within the executive branch agency, fellows will receive support from an academic mentor (either a professor or a senior researcher from a university center or research organization) located in the same state as the placement agency and who has a background or interest in policy-related research.  SRCD expects the Post-doctoral State Policy Fellowship in Early Childhood to provide both the fellow and academic mentor opportunities to gain further experience and insights into the ways in which research can be used to inform policy-making and implementation at the state level.

More information about the program, including requirements and procedures for submission of letters of intent is available here.

Deadline to submit letters of intent: December 22, 2017
