Position Available: Assistant Professor in Curriculum and Instruction, with specialization in Early Childhood Education

Beginning:  Fall Semester 2015, negotiable

The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education seeks an individual with scholarly interests and expertise in early childhood education at the Assistant Professor level. We seek a scholar who can help us extend and expand our commitment to the education of young learners in preschool, school, and other settings. This position offers opportunities to contribute to the development of high-quality scholarship and programs in early childhood education. The candidate should have an interest in teacher preparation as well as graduate education focused on enhancing the research capabilities of students interested in the many dimensions of the education of young learners. This position includes opportunities to teach on-line. Primary responsibilities include engaging in research, writing, and other scholarly activities in early childhood education; contributing to the early childhood and pre-K – 4th grade teacher certification undergraduate program, advising undergraduate and graduate students seeking teacher certification in pre-K – 4th grade education; developing and teaching graduate courses in early childhood education; supervising masters and doctoral students’ programs and research, and supervising graduate assistants; pursuing individually and/or with others relevant externally funded research, curriculum development, teacher education and/or evaluation opportunities in language education; participating in faculty governance with Department, College, and University; and providing service, outreach, and leadership to the University, educational institutions, agencies, and professional organizations and learned societies.

Required qualifications include (commensurate with experience): earned doctorate in early childhood education or a related field, and a strong academic record; strong record of, or potential for, research and scholarly publications in advance research in early childhood education; relevant teaching experience in early childhood settings; evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching and advising; evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds; and experience with funded projects or record of external funding commensurate with experience.

Desirable qualifications include: ability to teach interdisciplinary courses cutting across the arts, humanities and social sciences; ability to teach or oversee family-school-community course for future teachers; experience working with practicing teachers, partnerships between families, schools, communities and universities including professional development schools; experience in applications of technology in teaching and learning; and interests in early childhood inclusion, diverse language learners, or assessment and evaluation in Early Childhood Education.
